When it comes to building a following on Google Plus, engagement is the name of the game.
With each new post inside of Google Plus, we’re looking attract as many comments, reshares and +1′s as possible. Not only because these are great signs we’re posting relevant, valuable content, these engagement actions help to spread our message to a larger audience.
Nothing. Ghost town.
Your awesome content just sits there lonely and alone.
The truth is there’s nothing wrong with your post, your Google Plus engagement just needs a push.
Watch this short video for the whole story:
Ever get really jacked up after creating a Google Plus post because you know your audience is going to love it… Witty, Educational, Valuable, Get Image, Perfect Hashtags, Powerful Call-to-Action…
…only to have it completely Bomb?
Sure you have…
…we all have.
For whatever reason, some of our posts need a little push.
Here are 3 methods to jump start engagement on a google plus post:
1) Share your post on other social networks.
I use BufferApp for Google Chrome to schedule share to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, occasionally, for certain Google Plus posts that I feel are relevant to each specific social network. Google Plus posts are essentially their own mini blog posts, so why not share them like you would a blog post? Just click the Day/Time link underneath your name to get the unique link to that specific post and then share.
2) Reshare your post in communities.
This is a tactic I want you be very delicate with. If you abuse it people will unfollow you or mute your updates. But when done with tact, shared within relevant Google Plus Communities you can garner significant additional engagement. An even better strategy would be to share the unique link for your post mentioned above in relevant communities with a completely new description so the community audience has a reason to click through and engage.
3) Notify friends, colleagues, influencers of your post via the comments section.
Again, we only want to use this if we feel the post has a ton of value because bothering people with a notification, if abused, is another unfollow or muting offense. But if the topic is relevant to these specific individuals then they most likely will visit your post and engage in some manner.
Please take note… I said the word relevant 5 times now, so I’m very serious about only using these tactics when they make sense and add tons of value to the audience you’re sharing the post with.
