In episode #14 of the Content Warfare Podcast a man I once described in his comments section as Gangster, the most excellent Mark W Schaefer from Schaefer Marketing Solutions and the {GROW} blog.
Mark is the author of two essential Online marketing resources:
…as well as a Professor at Rutgers University and world renown speaker on the topics of sales and marketing.
With enough accolades to fill ten blog posts I’ll close with Mark’s just an around cool guy and it was an honor to chat with him.
What We Discussed
Besides picking Mark’s brain on creation and general marketing ideas and theories I wanted to learn why he focused so much of his effort on Twitter. I happen to love Twitter but I wanted to hear what Mark’s thoughts were on the platform versus say a Facebook or a Google+.
What was it about Twitter that attracted him to the platform?
…and just as important how do you stand out on Twitter? What are the characteristics of individuals and brands that are successful on Twitter?
We discuss social media influence and what that means to marketers as well as a ton of other topics that I think everyone trying to market a business or personal brand online will find a ton of value in.
Yes… That is a new logo for the Content Warfare Podcast. Thoughts?

Ryan,
I enjoyed listening to the podcast with Mark. I also find that when I just crank something out that relates to a personal story (but has a bigger point), that these do really well. I also liked the part about the Twitter cheat sheet turning into something that led to a self-published book and then a book deal (if I heard it correctly). Thanks Mark and Ryan and keep up the great work!
Tom,
I took note of that too… It’s something that Srini over at BlogcastFM talks about all the time. The importance of the “Larger Work.”
Mark is an amazing guy and it was such a pleasure chatting with him.
Thanks,
Hanley
Hey Ryan, while I like your podcasts, and I don’t want to be a whiney complainer, is there any chance you can record them in stereo? I have to listen to them on speaker because if I listen using ear buds, the voices go, your voice in one ear and then your interviewee in my other ear. It’s distracting to listen to something that keeps jumping from one ear to the other. The intro is always great and I hear it in both ears, but then it suddenly changes and swaps around. You have some great podcasts.
Ruth,
Great feedback. I’ll see what I can do for next week. Appreciate the heads up.
Ryan
