Haterz and some misinformed social media gurus will tell you that Google Plus is a ghost town and not worth your time.
….hahahaha, silly gurus.
Google Plus is a social media network built for content marketers and business owners (and can be especially powerful for small and/or local business owners).
Google Plus is the great equalizer. You don’t have to be a Google Plus early adopter to build new relationships on Google Plus.
This isn’t true for Twitter and Facebook. If you weren’t using either of these social networks three or four years ago, you’re struggling to gain traction today.
Google Plus rewards valuable conversions regardless of how big your following is (and there’s an amazing SEO benefit).
3 Ways to Build New Relationships on Google Plus Fast
But I know this just sounds like propaganda from a true-believer…
…so if you’re struggling to grow your presence on Google Plus, watch this short video for 3 tips to building new relationships that are very easy… very effective… and very fast:
Today’s Google Plus Friday is inspired by one of my favorite content creators and hell of a google plus connection Demian Farnworth… He looks like this:
Demian was responding to commenter who said, and I’m going to make a long comment short here, that he didn’t like Google Plus because he didn’t know anyone, his “social circles” weren’t there so in this commenters mind he wasn’t motivated to participate in Google Plus .
Demian’s response, which I’m going to link to in the description text below or just click here, was an analogy with point that Google Plus is a social network BUILT for connecting with like-minded people you DON”T already know.
I obviously agree with Demian’s point of view… Google Plus is the Content Marketers best friend. A place for us to spread our message to entirely new communities…
…but we have to put in the time to build relationships.
So today’s Google Plus Friday, 3 Ways to build NEW RELATIONSHIPS on Google Plus Fast
#1 Comment on posts by people who you’d like to connect with. Not bullshit comments like “Great thought” or “I agree.” Thoughtful, value adding comments that draw on your experiences and expertise. Content creators LOVE comments, they love them on their blog and they especially love them in Google Plus. If you’re looking to build relationships and a following on Google Plus comment as much as you can but Don’t spam.
#2 Reshare content to your network… Makes sense right, if you’re helping someone spread their message they’re going to be interested in who you are. I mentioned this in the very first Google Plus Friday, when sharing you don’t just want to link drop, write a little message which the share explaining why YOUR audience would find the content worthwhile. Two or three thoughtful sentences go a long way.
#3 Spend time in Communities… Do a simple search in the search bar at the top of Google Plus for the topics you’re most interested in. Find communities that match your interest and join them… then spend a significant portion of your Google Plus time in those communities sharing and adding value to the various discussions taking place. You’ll have tons of friends in no time… unless you’re a douche and then I can’t help you with that.
This is pretty basic stuff, but it’s exactly what I do every day to find and connect with new people I enjoy… and I absolutely guarantee it will work for you as well.
So my Google Plus Friday friends your homework this weekend, is to leave 3 thoughtful comments, share 3 posts written by someone else with an insightful description on why someone else should read it and join 1 community on a topic you enjoy…
..then hit me up on Google Plus and let me know how it worked. If we’re not connected yet just click here:
