"10 Social Tools Essential to Business Blogging Success"

Insurance Community Rocking the Social Web

Taking my insurance business from the mean streets of Albany, NY and expanding to the Social Web started as an experiment.  I felt like I was missing out on something.  I felt that there were conversations taking place that I wasn’t a part of.  And though I felt I needed to make the Social Web a part of business plan, I honestly had no idea what to expect when I created the Albany Insurance Professional Blog.

So I began to play with Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn spreading my information wherever I could find a place for it.

Today, 15 months from the birth of AIP, I can say that the Social Web is no longer an experiment but a steadfast piece of my Insurance Marketing and Communication plan.

Many of seeds I planted when I first started AIP have begun to grow and show fruit.  I have done insurance business through every form of Social Media I actively engage in…

What I didn’t expect, What has made the journey even more worthwhile, What I would miss the most if I were forced to give up my Social Web presence… The Relationships I’ve built with my fellow Insurance Industry Professionals.

Spreading the Love

So this post is all about Spreading the Love and connecting YOU with the people that I have grown very fond of.  They are all wonderful resources.  I have contacted many of them for help in different areas of my business and I encourage you to connect with them as well.  The link I’ve provided is their Twitter address. Twitter is a good place to start your relationship.

In no particular order:

Chris Jordan – The Infamous YouTube Insurance Personality who had the ballz to do an Insurance video segment from his bathtub.  If that doesn’t show how committed to the insurance industry he is than you don’t know Insurance Agents…

Linda Rey – I was trying to think of something clever to say about Linda, but all I kept coming back to was the word “Superstar.”  You think the Social Web doesn’t work for family-owned independent agencies? Think again, Linda kills it…

Nicholas Brown – Nick writes a fantastic blog on Insurance Agency Marketing with a focus in Social Media.  And he’s not afraid to wear plaid pants…

Joseph Puckett – Mixing Insurance and Social Media at another level.  If you want to meet someone that really gets it, this is your guy…

Cindy Donaldson – You have probably heard Cindy’s name before and that’s because her blog at Founders Group has become the bar for adding useful personality to an Insurance Agency Website.  This is what an Agency blog should be…

Alyson Del Paggio – Alyson is a relative newcomer to the scene that just gets what the Social Web is all about.  She adds insight and is wonderful at spreading great articles and opinions throughout the Insurance Community…

Carrie Reynolds – The Insurance Goddess, ‘nough said…

Rick Morgan – Rick is a consultant to the Insurance Industry, writes a great blog, and knows a hell of a lot about marketing your insurance agency through the Social Web…

Ashley Whitney – If you haven’t read one of Ashley’s articles on Insurance and Social Web then you haven’t truly lived yet…

Craig Rowe – Craig writes a wonderful blog about risk management.  Very good stuff…

The Rub

This is not nearly everyone.  Now that I’m this far into the list I’m going to stop and write a second post with another list of amazing insurance/social web resources.  I want to say thank you to everyone on this list and all the other wonderful professionals I have connected with over the past 15 months.  I look forward to growing our relationships more as we grow our presence and business on the Social Web…

Thank you, Ryan, for the great article! I’ve recommended it to our whole office to read. We’re currently starting a whole new outlook on social media and how it can be used as a networking and customer service tool. The profiles you mentioned were just the kind of examples that we were looking for. Thanks!

THANK YOU RYAN!!! I appreciate the mention here. I started my social media activities for my insurance agency 11 months ago and am so glad I did as it now represents close to 75% of all of my closed business and I know for a fact that it is helping me with retention. And, as you mentioned, I help others do the same now. I appreciate you and always look forward to your blog posts. Keep up the encouraging work my friend! Maybe I’ll have to come up to NY so we can meet. ;0) See you online!

Ryan- thank you SO much for the mention. I guess when you're a “Goddess”, you really don't need to offer much more of a description :) You are so right- the relationships with other insurance professionals is AMAZING. I have made some wonderful friends, engaged in both entertaining and informative dialogue and just love the support system from other insurance folk. What a great time to be in the industry and social media just capitalizes on what agents do best- help people and build relationships. I too, am grateful and look forward to lots more interaction. Thank you again.
