Beginning in April of 2010 (Which is Right Now), all contractors who perform renovation, repair, and/or painting work on homes, apartments and/or child occupied facilities built before 1978 MUST BE CERTIFIED in Lead Safe Work Practices.

This new regulation was recently passed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This new regulation does not only affect contractors but property managers, property owners, and paint distributors as well.  From April on every job in which renovations, repairs or painting is taking place on a structure built before 1978 must have at least one EPA certified renovator assigned.  Additionally, every worker who performs on the job must receive trained on safe work practices.

This is serious business.  Failure to comply with the EPA’s new Lead Safe regulation could result in penalties of up to $37,500 per day per violation.
